Martin received his LL.B. from the University of Leicester, and his LL.M. in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham. He is currently a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant and Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Birmingham (supervised by Professor Jonathan Harris).
His major research interests are in the fields of private international law and maritime law, on which he has published an article: “Choice of Law in Maritime Torts” (2007) 3 Journal of Private International Law 137-172. He also teaches on the LL.B. Land Law course at Birmingham.
Martin was a Consultant to the British Institute of International & Comparative Law in 2006 on a European Commission-funded comparative study concerning the application of the Brussels I Regulation in the Member States. He is also National Reporter for England on a feasibility study commissioned by the European Commission on the creation of a European research network in the fields of international private law, civil law and civil procedure, and has published an article on the current status of English private international law in that context (Martin P. George, “The present situation of private international law in England” (2005) 6 European Legal Forum I-257, I-271.)
Martin is the creator and General Editor of CONFLICT OF LAWS .NET and the Website Coordinator of the Journal of Private International Law.
